Improve Your SEO Page Rank right now in 4 simple steps

by admin on December 29, 2009

SEO frightens most people. They don’t know how to do it, and never take the time to do even the most basic page optimization.

Truth is it’s not difficult at all to set up a page so it’s optimized for search engine traffic.
Think of it as making the page speak the same language the search engine spiders do. You wouldn’t want to try to explain your website in English to a Russian speaking person. Same goes for your webpages. Make it easy for the search engines to understand what you page is about and you will see better rankings.

Remember search engine traffic is free and targeted. You want a piece of that pie.

Here’s what you do:

Step 1:

Do keyword research. This is the single most important step. Find out what people are typing into search engines to find sites like yours. If your site is about raising and caring for bulldog puppies are people searching for “bulldog puppies” or “puppy training”? There any many word combinations related to puppy training. Do your research and find out which ones are the most relevant to your site and content. A simple Google search will get you started. Look at the results for a given keyword and see what sites come up on the first few search pages. www.seobook.com is another handy keyword research tool.

Step 2.
Edit the <title> tag on your site. If you are looking at your site code it’s the words that have <title> at the beginning and </title> at the end. Edit between those tags. Put in a title that has your keywords. “Learn puppy training techniques” would work if those turned out to be good keywords for your topic.

Step 3.
Use your keywords on your pages. If your site is about puppy training then make sure you use those words occasionally. You can also use related words like “dog training” and so on. Don’t overuse a word, as the search engine spiders may see that as keyword spamming. Write in a conversational style and you will usually end up with just the right percentage of keywords and related terms.

Step 4.
Create a Meta tag. Again if you are looking at the code for you site the meta tag looks like this:

<meta name=”Description” content=”a clear description of your site, make sure you include your keywords you researched”>

You may not have a meta tag in your site code. (It is usually near the top) If not make one. Copy and past the meta code from this post and put it on your page and substitute your own information.

Keep in mind that these are basic steps for SEO. Every page you create should have these modifications done at a bare minimum.
