but I want to have it all make sense NOW!

by admin on December 3, 2009

We had a question come in the other day. It was from a customer of ours who had a 700 person list.

He mentioned it didn’t seem that responsive and he wanted to know how to increase responsiveness and conversions.

Tellman answered his question via video and what he said may surprise you.

Tellman broke it down this way- he said let’s say you have a 1000 person list just to keep the math simple. Now let’s say you have a 25% open rate (very high). That is 250 people who open your emails every time you send a broadcast. Now let’s say you have a 10% clickthrough rate. That’s 100 people who actually click the link in your emails and end up on your sales page.

Still with me?

Here’s the problem, 100 people isn’t enough to be able to tell anything at all. It’s not enough to give you accurate stats.
You need at least 10,000 people on your list before you start concerning yourself with this kind of thing.

Here’s what you do, if you are in this situation yourself and you are trying to make sense of stats and data from a small email list then stop. Hit pause for me for a second.
Don’t worry about that stuff yet ok?
Instead focus on building your list at lightning speed. Your best tool to do this is teleseminars. Of course keep emailing your list every day. Keep cultivating it like it was a big list. Keep bonding with your people and making them happy.
But don’t be too worried about the conversions, stats, and all that yet. The money will come as you build your list bigger and bigger. Listbuilding is the single most valuable skill you can develop.

We know this to be true from watching the progress and success of our Listbuilding Club members. Tellman himself found out when he first got started that the most valuable thing he could be spending his time on was listbuilding. And he did. He got really good at it too!
