In the beginning most of us go through the same learning curve when it comes to emailing and marketing to our subscriber list. Here are 5 tips to help you get going on the right foot.
1. Many people with a freshly built list are scared to email it.
They are afraid of unsubscribes, irritated customers etc. Don’t think about it this way, when somebody signed up to your list they agreed to be contacted by you, in fact many of them are expecting it. Every time you email your list you will have attrition, it’s natural. There are a variety of reasons people unsubscribe. Some are having a bad day, others forgot why they signed up to your list or who you are. Regardless of the reason, don’t focus on that aspect. It will put you into a scarcity mentality. Instead focus on always building your list and adding new subscribers.
2. Always have a call to action in your emails.
You don’t have to always send your list marketing emails, it’s good to mix in valuable content. The key here is to make sure there is always action requested in the email. Every email you send should have a link in it. Could be to a Youtube video, a marketing promotion, or a blog post. Make sure to condition your list to taking action in every email you send. If you do nothing but send your list content with no action required and no links in the email, when you finally DO send a marketing message the results will be low because your subscribers won’t be used to taking action and clicking links in your emails.
3. Mail your list often.
It’s a busy confusing world out there, you need to be up front and in view of your list every day. Don’t mail them once a month or even once a week. Mail you list every day, preferably in the morning. At least push send the same time every day. In this way your list will come to expect email from you every morning. If you start by mailing once a month and then immediately switch to once a day it will confuse people and probably result in more list attrition than you’d like.
4. Find out what your list wants
Keep track of what offers you send to your subscribers and the results. If you find they are most receptive to listbuilding and affiliate marketing stuff then send them more of it. Think of it as ongoing research and testing, all the time you are gaining a better understanding of your people. Give them what they want, not what you think they want. This can also come in handy later on if you decide to make your own products. If you already have a clear idea of what your list is interested in you will be much better equipped to custom design a product that you know will be well received.
5. Bond with your list.
Invest your own personality in every email and offer. Let your subscribers know there is a real person pushing SEND. Make sure they know you really care about them and are interested in their personal success. Solicit testimonials and use them occasionally in your emails. All of this will help you become more genuine to your list. Make sure they know what you look like. Make videos with your mug in them
