One complaint we hear over and over again from people starting an online business is that they just have the toughest time getting themselves in gear and figuring out what steps to take next.
Sure many of them know what they SHOULD be doing. Others have taken small stabs at various projects but the common issue seems to revolve around keeping it going and getting a sense of direction.
We all struggle with “lazy brain” from time to time, here are 3 strategies to help you get your ducks lined up and make some REAL progress.
1. Set a measurable achievable goal.
An example of such a goal could sound like this: “Within 30 days I will have made 5 affiliate sales.”
When those 30 days are up you will know if you met the goal or not. If you have then you are getting somewhere! Write down your success and aim higher. Double your goal to 10 affiliate sales in the next 30 days. It’s absolutely essential that you set goals. If you don’t know where you are going how are you ever going to get there?
2. Tell family and friends what your goal is.
This makes you more accountable for it. You know some of them will ask if you were able to meet your goal, and you will feel lame if you don’t. It’s added incentive. Stating an intent out loud also has a positive affect on your own mind. It’s a stronger declaration than simply saying it to yourself. Even better, write your goal down and post it where you see it several times a day.
3. Take your first action NOW.
The best thing to do is go buy a domain name. Doesn’t matter if you already have one or several. Go buy one now, and immediately state what you are going to do with it. The hardest part of doing anything is getting started. Once you’ve sat down at your computer and bought your domain name the next step will be easier. Sure there will be more to learn and do down the road, but once you have momentum it’s much easier. Momentum is key, starting your own online business is like getting a train going. Hard to do at first, but once you get a train going it’s tough to stop!
One of the best ways to motivate yourself to take action is to surround yourself with other people who are taking action themselves! The absolute best place to do that is in the LBC forums.
