Internet Marketing and List Building – No Squeeze Page Required, Part 2

by admin on November 30, 2007

In our last article we talked about using co-registration for list building, without needing to put up a squeeze page. Don’t forget that list building is the most important activity in Internet marketing, and you should do it via any means available, but not all of them involve using a squeeze page. This time, let’s talk about another way to be list building that can be just as satisfying and that only takes a little know-how and a little work. Plus, it can be lots of fun while you’re at it.

What am I talking about?

Blogging.

Setting up a blog is the easiest way to start your Internet marketing website. You get a cool domain. You choose a hosting company with cPanel and Fantastico, and you can set up a WordPress blog in just a few minutes. Why use WordPress when Blogger is available? you ask. Well, WordPress is the darling of the search engines. The RSS feed is easy to spider because it’s all text. There’s no code to hinder their progress. Plus, WordPress is very user friendly and there are many, many free themes that you can use to customize your blog any way you want. You can also gain search engine optimization advantage by using some of many available plugins. This means more traffic because your blog will show up in the search engine results pages pretty quickly.

But you can also use your new niche-specific Internet marketing blog for list building. How? By putting an opt-in box in the top widget of its sidebar. You want it high on the page so that people can easily find it and subscribe to your list. You’ll notice that we have a widget for our opt-in box in our sidebar, and it works to get new subscribers for us every time we post.

Then, just drive traffic to your blog to attract opt-ins, and there are many ways to do this in Internet marketing. Try pay-per-click, like Google’s AdWords, Yahoo’s Overture, or AdBrite. It takes some trial and effort, but that type of advertising does work. You can also make videos that drive people to your blog. In fact, you can upload your videos to places like YouTube.com or Google Video and to your blog at the same time, giving you advertising and content all at once. Do an audio recording and turn it into a podcast. You can advertise in ezines or write some articles and place them in article directories. It’s all up to you. Use all of these methods so that you’re list building all the time.

Blogging also has something that a plain squeeze page lacks, mainly the continual use of Web 2.0. If you bookmark every post you make in places like Digg, Reddit, and StumbleUpon, you’ll get traffic from people who see each story and are interested in reading more. When they come to your blog, enjoy your information, and see the opt-in box at the top of your sidebar, you may have a new subscrber, as well. Or, go make friends with people on MySpace or Facebook, and start a group for your niche. Make the URL to your blog part of your signature. You’ll be amazed at how well this works. You can do this when posting in forums, too.

By using all the weapons in your Internet marketing arsenal, you’ll be able to have fun blogging about your niche, but you’ll be list building at the same time. Keep readers coming back to your blog by giving them valuable content, and always be sure to place the opt-in box where readers can see it. Your list will be growing in no time.

“Or, go make friends with people on MySpace or Facebook, and start a group for your niche. Make the URL to your blog part of your signature. You’ll be amazed at how well this works. You can do this when posting in forums, too.”

The only problem is that some forums like the Warrior Forum gets bent out of shape when you use links in your signature unless they are only to your own blog.

I created a tool for Myspace Comments called Space Buttons that I will gladly give a free copy to all of Tellman’s readers. Just go to SpaceButtons.net and you can get a free copy of my Cool Comment program. It helps get you links that really do get clicked by all of the people who visit your friend’s profile.

I love Facebook, in fact, Tellman is one of my Top Friends on there, because of all of the ice breakers that are built into the website. For example, your friends can buy you a drink, spank you, attack you with their zombies, vampire, werewolf or slayer post comments and videos on your wall, compare movies that you like, play songs and so much more that you can sometimes find yourself spending too much time there… It is perfect for those of us with ADD. Once you break the ice with someone, you can send messages back and forth and build a real relationship with them.

Thanks for this great informative blog, Tellman. My zombie is going to be visiting your vampire soon…lol.

Have an amazing day!

I love Wordpress and blogging, I use Wordpress on nearly 90% of my sites. The others are all other CMS systems! Wordpress is great, completely adaptable, and easy to manage. Great stuff.

This blog really puts things into perspective. I use WordPress and thinks its invaluable. PPC is good, but i believe in old fashion organic searches. Always works for me. Need help or ideas, visit us at Data Tech Solutions. Look forward to helping in anyway.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Good content has always been the bread and butter of search engines because it’s what organic searchers (your potential audience) want to find. Using blogging platforms like WordPress is a great way to create this content, especially as you point out that WordPress is so heavily favoured by search engines.
