OK…
So, we got some comments about how to do certain things, and I’d like to clear those up and see if I can help.
First, Grace asked how to make a hyperlink to keywords in her blog.
Easy, Grace. You’ll love this!
OK… go to a keyword phrase, as I always do. Highlight it with your mouse. Then, if you’re using a WordPress blog, it’s simple as can be:
Click on “link,” which is blue, just as a hyperlink is blue. Then, a box will pop up and ask you for the URL of your website. Fill it in, and there you have it! It’s pretty simple. If I misunderstood the question let me know what more you need to know.
You can also customize those links.
For instance, if you want to keep people at your blog or website (and this applies to any hyperlink, blog or whatever), all you have to do is add this snippet of code to the link:
In some versions of WordPress or if you’re using a different plug-in as your interface, you may have the option of choosing to have the link open in a new window at that time. But with the simple version, you’ll have to type that little bit of code in to have your hyperlink open in a new window.
Gary asked about putting other people’s blogs into your blogroll.
Also simple solution.
When you’re in the WordPress Dashboard, click on “Links.” You’ll probably see the blogroll just as it came with your WordPress blog. Names like Alex, Donna, and I think Tom are in there. Those are links to WordPress developer blogs. You may want to keep them, if you’re writing tech stuff, but generally, I just delete them, which is easy by just hitting the delete button.
To add a link, notice the hyperlink at the top, under the main navigation bar that says “add link.” Click on that. Put in the URL, the title of the link, like Tellman’s List Building Blog, for instance, and if you want, you can add a short description. When you’re trading links, it’s best if your link partner decides what he wants the link to say. That way, you can design your own link for their blogroll and that way, you get to include your keyword(s). Of course they should be in the title of your blog, so probably just the title of your blog will work.
The key here is if you’re trading lots of links this way, use different phrases. Have about three or four that you can rotate. That way they look more natural. Search engines are all about that, but that’s another discussion.
I hope that’s helped Grace and Gary. I rarely post anything that’s not strictly about list building, but these were easy questions that I could answer in a short post.
Hope that helped!
